THINKING OF HAVING AN AUCTION?
  1. The  "larger" items or "antiques" get people to come.
  2. The "nicer" items give people a reason to stay.
  3. Try to persuade relatives, or yourself, not to take most of the larger or nicer items. It really does make a difference in the outcome of the auction.
  4. If you stay at the auction, RELAX. If you begin to speak out about the value of items, or what you paid, or how "really good" things are, people will not put their heart into enjoying the auction, and just won't bid as good.
  5. If things start selling low, try to just enjoy the auction with the people-it really may help the sale.
  6. Have an available bathroom to keep buyers at the auction.  If it's not possible, there should be arrangements for a port-a-potty.
Benefits:
  1. Everything Sells.
  2. One day, and it's over.
  3. Statistics show the sale usually brings a total of more than you'd expect. (Even though some larger items may sell for less, the smaller items bring the total up)
What type of personal property auctions do better?
  1. Estate and Farm Sales do better than most other types of sales.
  2. Sales at property locations do better than sales at Storage Buildings.
  3. Consignment sales sometimes don't  do as as well as one-owner sales.
  4. For "Antique Dealer" Auctions to do really well, the quality of items for sale must convince Buyers they're not "Left-overs".
  5. Appliances/Antiques/Farm Equipment or Nice, Clean Items, draw the crowds.
What causes people to come to an auction?
  1. They want to see if they can get a bargain.
  2. They want to have fun. It's Social. It's entertaining. It's Fascinating. Tradition.
  3. They never know what they might find…

AUCTION PHILOSOPHY
PERSONAL PROPERTY
People come for a bargain and a good time. They'll enjoy getting some bargains, and then not mind paying extra for something "extra" they didn't intend to get.  If we can show them they'll get a bargain, they'll pay more for other things.
If buyers think prices are set on items, sometimes they just won't bid.  If you must price an item or two, set it as low as you possibly can, so it will sell, and so Buyers will keep bidding.
For Buyers who follow our auctions, and we feel a responsibility to give them a good auction to come to. For this reason, we try to have auctions that have at least mostly good quality items.  This keeps buyers coming, and keeps them bidding.
Auctions are "our thing".
Our staff enjoys the people, and it is our goal to make the most money for the seller that we can, and to help everyone have a good time.
